Guilin Travel Guide: First Visit to Guilin

Located in the northeastern part of Guangxi, Guilin is a world-renowned scenic tourist city and historical and cultural city, celebrated globally for its “landscape unparalleled under heaven.” It features a typical “karst” landform, shaped by hundreds of millions of years of weathering and erosion, creating a unique landscape of thousands of peaks surrounding peculiar caves and beautiful rocks. Guilin enjoys a mild climate with distinct seasons, making April to October the best travel period, though there are more tourists during the “May Day” and “National Day” holidays.

Natural Landscapes

Li River: The soul of Guilin’s landscape, the 83-kilometer Li River winds through breathtaking scenery. Taking a cruise or bamboo raft downstream feels like “wandering in a painting.”

Longji Terraces: With grand scale and flowing lines, these terraces are like mirrors in spring and golden in autumn, known as the “crown of terrace worlds.”

Mao’er Mountain: The highest peak in Guangxi, it boasts a majestic landscape and rich vegetation, serving as the birthplace of the Li River and other rivers.

Tianhe Waterfall Scenic Area: Combining primeval forests, waterfalls, and Yao ethnic customs, the 88-meter waterfall here is truly magnificent.

Cultural Landscapes

Duxiu Peak – Wangcheng Scenic Area: The well-preserved Ming Dynasty Jingjiang Prince’s Mansion allows visitors to overlook the entire city from the peak.

Daxu Ancient Town: With a history of over 1,800 years, its old streets, arcade buildings, and historical sites exude ancient charm.

Guilin Eternal Love: A song and dance show showcasing Guilin’s millennium-long historical changes.

Zhengyang Pedestrian Street: A bustling hub for shopping, dining, and entertainment.

Cuisine

Guilin Rice Noodles: Smooth noodles paired with a uniquely flavored brine.

Yangshuo Beer Fish: Tender fish infused with the rich aroma of beer.

Lipu Taro and Pork Belly: Soft, sweet, and non-greasy, a classic dish.

Gongcheng Oil Tea: Fragrant and spicy, both a delicacy and a health remedy.

Additionally, traditional festivals of ethnic minorities such as the Zhuang and Yao, like the March Third Song Festival and Panwang Festival, are filled with rich ethnic customs.
